Now accepting donations: Various causes and various needs around the Dayton area

December 16th, 2007

As you are busy with holiday plans, here are a few easy, inexpensive, and convenient ways to help out. Charitable giving does not have to be big to make a difference, a lot of small things add up to a big thing.

The Huber Heights Senior Center, 6428 Chambersburg Rd in Huber is collecting items for the Blue Star Mothers of America, Miami Valley Chapter #3, to send to troops.
A list of needs:Baby wipes, shampoo, soaps, lotion, foot care products, sun block, Visine, Q-tips, baby powder, chapstick, hand sanitizer, deodorants, all dental products, stationery and envelopes, toilet paper, sanitary products for women.
A list of wants: Small hand-held games, batteries (AA or AAA), brown t-shirts (all sizes), white tube socks, music CD’s any kind of movie in DVD format.
Most requested items:Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, power bars, peanuts, tuna fish (seal packed), small packages of cheese crackers, hard candy, small packages of cookies, life savers, gum, suckers, Crystal Light drink mixes, Kool-Aid drink mixes in pre-sweetened packages, powdered Gatorade in small packages, tic tacs, and anything else they can put into their pockets to carry with them.
If you are picking up any of these items at the store, pick up one extra and drop it off- a lot of a little things will add up in the life of a soldier. For details call Bobbi Markley at 233-8866.

The Huber Heights Jaycees and the FISH Food Pantry are accepting new and gently used Toys for Kids at Christmas Project. Toys for children ages birth to 15 years, and wrapping paper, tape, and ribbon are also being accepted. Drop off donations at 7819 Waynetown Blvd, next to Subway. The store front will be open every Tues. and Thurs from 6-8 pm until December 20. For details about Toys call Jeff Fuhrer at 287-3480. For information about FISH, call Sally Hamilton at 233-3308.

Have something to add?

edit. 12/16/07 The use of credit and debit cards means that many of us do not carry cash. Daniel Johnson Jr works in Dayton, and after seeing the Salvation Army bucket at the Waynetown Plaza, he recorded this Utterz about a rewarding experience as a Salvation Army musician. One more way to give in small ways.
