Mid-Week Speedlinks: Day of the Dead

October 31st, 2007

day of the dead skeletonsDay of the Dead… I like this celebration. I don’t celebrate it, but I like it- remembering those that went before us, and celebrating their life, celebrating our lives. Yes, that’s what a holiday should always be- celebrating life.

I keep two small skeletons on display in my home. I bought them in Tucson AZ years ago, after the Day of the Dead festivities there. They are not morbid, they are quite charming, and the fact that I keep them out all year long means only that they remind me that life is precious, and they remind me not to take it too seriously.

This week’s speedlinks are all about the Day of the Dead.

Photos, blog, and essays are here at DayoftheDead.com

Wikipedia discusses the holiday here.

You can check out some terrific Day of the Dead artwork at Dia de los Muertos.

The Food Network has recipes! Yum.

I like this holiday as well, but didn’t really celebrate this year. The skeletons are a nice touch, something that should be created for each Holiday (skeletons with little bunny ears for Easter, skeletons with Antlers for Christmas). Hallmark would sell them for sure if they think they can make a buck off them.

David!! Stop! Do not even suggest such a thing. Perhaps I like this holiday because it isn’t a Hallmark holiday. So hush and don’t give them any ideas. :-)

I like Day (s) of the Dead too. I ignored it this year for some reason. Your skeletons are wonderful.

Skeletons are great pets Teri, as long as they don’t get tied up in the closet.
