Thai 9 in the Oregon District

March 12th, 2009

Another Dayton Gem, Thai 9 is a favorite restaurant of many Daytonians, and for good reason! The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is lovely, and the waitstaff rocks. A lunch meet-up was the perfect opportunity to get some photos.

Thai 9 website is here.

    Hey Teri!
What a coincidence that you mention this place. My brother introduced use to it a couple of weeks ago and I’m just waiting to go back, The pineapple fried rice is to die for! I espcially love how they ask about the 1-9 scale.

    Hi Michelle-

Oh! That heat scale is brutal. I don’t enjoy sweating or blowing my nose during dinner, so I opt out, but my fellow lunch mates that day were much braver than I. Someone got a 5 and said it was brutal, absolutely brutal. And these guys are self-proclaimed heat seeking diners. I’m a big wimp.

But yeah, Thai 9 is so pretty. And it has great food. And it has great staff. And I didn’t use the restroom, but I think they have the most cool ladies room in Dayton! Since, we are among friends here, we can discuss that stuff, right? ;-)

Hmmmmmmm I never went to the ladies room. Will have to hit that the next time!
I did 7 on the scale…..and it really wasn’t that bad. My lips burnt and my scalp sweated (is that a word?) for a while but I dig spicy food so it didn’ t bother me too much. My brother said it all depends on the chef.

    That’s insanity. I like it! :-)

I’m just wondering how 9 is. I heard that spicy hot food speeds up your metabolism and since I’m trying to lose some excess baggage I pondering how if should go that high. Maybe a trip to the gym after dinner is the way to go? My husband had the Thai Nine Fried Rice and had a 7 but said it wasn’t as hot as mine and the next time he would order what I had the next time. My daughter split a sushi boat with my nephews and they all had plenty to nibble on between the three of them.

I only go to 1. When I say I’m a spicy food wimp, I’m not joking.

I need to try the sushi, it always looks soooo yummy and good sushi is not easy to find in Dayton. The portions are generous, I find. I’m lucky to get through half of it.

And I have to recommend that salad! OMG. Onions and lettuce and carrots in a sweet and tart dressing. I love the salad so much. Although the onions… well, strong, but good, but strong. Worth it to me, maybe the people I’m with don’t appreciate the onions quite as much as I do, though. ;-)

No sushi for me. There’s something about eating any kind of raw meat that turns my stomach. :???:

    Hi Terri!

Have you checked out Siam Pad Thai? They are located next to the Belmont Bakery on Wilmington Pike. This has quickly become my favorite thai place in Dayton. They are not fancy like Thai 9. They are however super friendly, quick, and the food is delicious.
It’s a small place, you might find yourself sitting next to a stranger. But it’s not uncomfortable, I have yet to be seated next to anyone who hasn’t been wonderfully kind and had a story to tell about thai food. Once you enter the doors it’s like we’re all friends, the place has that effect on you.
    And it’s all about the food. I haven’t tried a dish yet that I didn’t enjoy. I
So while I have been and enjoyed Thai 9, I suggest you try out Siam Pad Thai and see if Thai 9 is still on the top of your list for Dayton Gems Thai style.

    Hi Michelle-

Thank you for the tip! I’ve not been there, but I will give it a try. Sounds like a nice place- different from Thai 9, but different in a good way.
