Patti Cakes- A rockin’ bakery in Dayton Ohio

January 21st, 2009

Today I’m starting a new category on this blog- Dayton Gems- that highlights unique and independent businesses in the area. I’m a huge supporter of Mom and Pops. It’s kind of a hobby of mine to seek out small businesses and I try to support these businesses every chance I can, but I’ve seen too many close their doors, and often it’s due in part to a lack of advertising- no one knew they were there.

So I have an opportunity to help other businesses and I’m going to do it. I’ve also started a group on facebook- Dayton Bootstrappers- for this very reason. Go join!

This first post highlights Patti Cakes Bakery in Huber Heights. I celebrated a birthday last week, and like most of our birthdays, Patti made the cake. I think we’ve been buying our cakes from them for just about as long as they’ve been in business. They’ve made our dinosaur cakes and airplane cakes and ballerina cakes and rock-n-roll cakes and anniversary cakes for years. And it’s a delicate taste- they add a touch of almond to the frosting recipe. It’s that little touch that makes people stop and say, “Wow. This is good!” Their customer service oriented way of doing business is what makes us say “Wow! We’ll be back.”

This is the neighborhood bakery- you know the place where they know you from the first moment you walk in? Patti Cakes is going to be celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, 2009. That’s a lot of celebrations of which they’ve been a part, and they’ve opened a drive-thru window, so you can pick up your coffee and donuts on the way to work- they are open at 6a.m.

Stop by- 5115 Old Troy Pk- they are always happy to see you. Or give them a call (937) 236-7284.

I love this place! Super yummy cakes and only a hop skip and jump from my house. Local is always best. Here’s another “gem” you might want to try out…..Classic Pizza on Taylorsville Road. They have a special on Mondays….$7.00 for a large one topping pizza….no limit!

    Hi Michelle-

    Patti’s is an awesome place.

Classic Pizza, too! Thanks for the tip. I’m going to try to feature as many of these businesses as possible- not just food, but the local computer repair shop, the local bike shop, the paint your own pottery place, etc…. Dayton is full of these gems and advertising is very expensive- maybe people just need a heads up about what is out there, and maybe we can all help keep these businesses in business.

I first tried Patti Cakes in 2003 while planning my wedding. As soon as I tasted the cake I knew she was going to do my cake. She designed the cake exactly as I wanted, it was delicious, and she is very affordable. I have use Patti Cakes for every celebration since. As a matter of fact I will be picking up my daughter’s 3rd birthday cake this friday. I hope it makes it home!

Patti Cakes made my wedding cake in 2001. It was exactly what I wanted, completely designed by me with suggestions from them. It was a very tasty cake. I will be contacting them to make my daughters 2nd birthday cake. Very good cake, can’t go wrong.
