Media Consumption Meme

July 8th, 2007

TheBrickRanch got its first MEME. I think of a MEME as a game of cultural tag. You answer a bit of information about yourself, then ask other bloggers to do the same, then they invite other bloggers; you know, “tag- you’re it”.

So Maureen McCabe of Columbus Best Blog memed quite a few bloggers with this Media Consumption Meme. Some memes are personal, trivial, silly- just for fun. I don’t care to post those on TBR, however, since reading a blog is an act of media consumption, I thought it might be appropriate to post this one. Without further ado, Teri answers a Media Consumption Meme:

Web- I was having babies around the same time I starting surfing, so the exact year is all a-jumble. Early 90’s I suppose? It seems like all our lives though, doesn’t it? Our first home computer was a Mac of some sort, and we continued to be have both Macs and PCs in the house until about, um, 6 years ago? We are looking at Macs again because of the graphic work you can easily do on a Mac; it requires much wrestling and entirely too much foul language to do the same thing on a PC.

Browser- Internet Explorer.

Aggregator- Bloglines brings me about 20. I’d never leave my desk if I read much more.

Wiki- Not a wiki to my name. I’ll put that on my life list.

Blog Platform- WordPress for TBR. Active Rain blog. Dismantled 2 Blogger blogs. Have an unused RealtownBlog. Hmm. Forgot all about that one, maybe I should… No forget it. No time for more blogging.

IM - Not yet, why not? Email and the phone git r done. But any day now- just a matter of time.

Radio - DaytonOldies, of course. Then there is a station from Cincy 94.9 Don’t know what the call letters are, but it’s all the music I listened to from the 80’s and 90’s and the stuff I listen to now - from The Clash to The Killers. I would love Sirius. That appeals to me.

Music- U2, Dwight Yoakum, Mana, Wynton Marsalis…I have a little bit of everything. I love all types of music and make sure I have anything that might suit my mood.

TV - The only shows I make time for are Rescue Me and Project Runway. I will watch Top Chef and Iron Chef if they are on, which is kinda odd because I’m not even a cook, let alone a chef, but I always loved watching Julia Childs as a kid so maybe it’s a holdover. No network TV, I watch cable only, but no premium cable. I always check TCM, love movies and hate commercials, if there isn’t anything I care to watch on Bravo or TCM or Food Network, I do surf.  I surf early and surf often and I surf with the best of them, but that’s not really watching is it?

Books - Non fiction. Sad but true. I’m always reading several books at once. Currently: Emotional Branding, The Long Tail, The Vein of Gold. Sounds like it’s time for some Carl Hiaasen.

Podcasts - Don’t really listen to them, never produced one, on my to-do list.

Communication - Email of course. Home phone but don’t bother. Best to reach me on my cell phone- 937-478-7781.

Magazines - Ah, magazines- My dirty little secret. It’s embarrassing and a bit shameful but I’m a junky for mags: Wired, Elle, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Atomic Ranch, Dwell, Business Week, USNews and World Report. Those are a few subscriptions that come to the house. I pick up mags everywhere I go: Vanity Fair & GQ regularly and any German or French decorating mags I can find. Believe or not, I’ve cut back. This really is my media of choice.

Newspaper - WSJ, Dayton Daily Newsless, I pick up The City Paper. And because I script the community calendar announcements for WSWO, I read all the northern Miami Valley weekly suburban papers, about 6-7 in all.

There you have it.

Who did I meme?

I missed this on ActiveRain or here for some reason. I must have been busy getting ready for a bus visit.
